The Cravens Student Services Center and parking lot on a 5-acre site at College of the Desert Community College in Palm Desert, CA.

SBD Involvement

Security By Design joined the design team as a sub-consultant to WWCOT Architecture, which later merged with DLR Group.

SBD reviewed the plans and worked with WWCOT and College of the Desert (CoD) to develop a security design narrative, which was approved prior to adding security points. The design narrative and subsequent security design were created from a building user’s perspective and with an understanding of the interactions with surrounding buildings. In addition to the end user and architect, SBD coordinated with other disciplines to facilitate the interfaces between security design, electrical, fire, IT, hardware, and landscape.

Once the 100% CD package was issued, SBD participated in the bid process, provided construction support, and conducted final acceptance testing.

The design incorporated the Access Control and Alarm Management System already in use at CoD into the new space, and included video recording, panic buttons, and call-for-assistance stations which could be monitored at the existing security operations center.
